Oklahoma vs. Akron: Game time, live stream, TV coverage
After a subpar 8-5 season in 2014, which ended with a 40-6 rout at the hands of Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl, Oklahoma begins a new campaign against Akron. The Sooners return seven starters to an offense that averaged 36.2 points per game, including All-Big 12 running back Samaje Perine, who set a NCAA single-game record with 427 rushing yards against Kansas. But Oklahoma will need to shore up the defense, particularly a pass defense that ranked 117th in the country last season, to improve on last season's record.
Akron had a second consecutive 5-7 finish last season, but could be poised for some improvement in the MAC with a strong season from senior Kyle Pohl. After Akron finished last in the conference in passing efficiency last season, Pohl must take a step forward and elevate the more inexperienced parts around him. The Zips return six starters and several transfers to a solid defense that will be relied on to keep games close. Oklahoma will be an enormous test.
