Florida defensive back Deiondre Porter suspended indefinitely

Porter has been charged with with aggravated battery, firing a "deadly missile" into a vehicle or dwelling, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and criminal mischief for property damage

The Florida Gators have suspended defensive back Deiondre Porter indefinitely, the athletic department announced on Wednesday morning.

"He's no longer with the football team," head coach Jim McElwain said on the SEC teleconference call, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

Earlier on Wednesday, Porter was booked in Alachua County Jail on second degree-felony charges of aggravated battery, firing a weapon into a vehicle, third-degree felony charges on counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and a second-degree misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief for property damage, according to the Gainesville Sun's Cindy Swirko.

On Sept. 29, Porter allegedly held a .45 caliber gun to his pregnant girlfriend's head and asked whether she was intimate with one of his teammates, according to the Gainesville Police department. The next morning, Porter remained angry about the incident and fired a shot in the victim's direction, which struck the wall behind her.

Porter red-shirted last season and recorded two tackles in the team's first six games of the year.

The news comes just two days after quarterback Will Grier reportedly tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, resulting in a year-long  suspension.

The Gators head to Baton Rouge this weekend to face the LSU Tigers on Saturday.
