Michigan State DB suffers season-ending injury on game-winning TD
Michigan State sophomore defensive back Jalen Watts-Jackson, who scored the game-winning touchdown to beat No. 12 Michigan on Saturday, sustained a broken and dislocated hip on the play according to Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio.
Dantonio said Sunday that Watts-Jackson had surgery to repair the injury and will miss the rest of the season.
With the Spartans down 23–21, Watts-Jackson recovered a fumbled snap by punter Blake O’Neill and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to give Michigan State a 27–23 victory.
After the game, as teammates attempted to celebrate with the sophomore, he appeared to shoo them away before trainers got to the ground. Watts-Jackson said the injury occurred before his teammates piled on him.
Dantonio said Watts-Jackson was taken to the hospital.
Michigan State improved to 7–0, while Michigan fell to 5–2.
