Texas reaches record 15-year, $250 million deal to remain with Nike
University of Texas regents approved a 15-year contract extension with Nike worth $250 million, reports Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News.
Earlier this summer, the Michigan Wolverines signed a 15-year deal with Nike worth an estimated $169 million, which was the biggest apparel and sponsorship contract in college sports till Texas’ new deal. Michigan left Adidas after a nine-year partnership before the team’s switch to the swoosh, which is set to officially begin in 2016.
Texas athletic apparel has topped the Collegiate Licensing Company’s rankings for t-shirt, hats and other merchandise sales for the past nine years. Nike and Texas first partnered in 2000.
