Former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost has been named UCF’s new head coach, a source confirmed to SI's Thayer Evans. The program later announced the hire Tuesday morning.

Frost first joined the Oregon coaching staff in 2009 as the team’s wide receivers coach under Chip Kelly. Following Kelly’s departure to coach in the NFL, Frost became the Ducks’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under new head coach Mark Helfrich.

Frost was the starting quarterback for Nebraska in 1997, leading the Cornhuskers to a national title. Frost played defensive back and special teams for six seasons in the NFL before beginning his coaching career.

The Knights completed a winless season on Thursday with a loss to the South Florida Bulls.

Former UCF head coach George O'Leary announced his retirement from the position in October after coaching the Knights since 2004. Quarterbacks coach Danny Barrett served as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
