North Carolina, head coach Larry Fedora agree to new seven-year deal

North Carolina and head coach Larry Fedora have agreed to a new seven-year deal, the school announced on Saturday.
Fedora, 53, became the 34th head coach in school history in 2012, replacing interim Everett Withers, who took over for Butch Davis. He’s led the Tar Heels to a 32–18 overall record, and 21–11 mark in the ACC.
“Coach Fedora has done an outstanding job of leading our football program and I am pleased that he has agreed to be our coach well into the next decade,” Cunningham said athletic director Bubba Cunningham. “He has helped to lift Carolina football into the national discussion and put our program in a position to compete for championships on a consistent basis while also allowing our student-athletes to succeed in the classroom and have a positive impact in the community.”
North Carolina entered Saturday ranked No. 10 in the College Football Playoff standings at 11–1 and 8–0 in conference play.
Before joining North Carolina, Fedora was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2005–07 and the head coach at Southern Mississippi from 2008–11.
The Tar Heels take on top-ranked Clemson at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday in the ACC championship game.
