Samford’s Travis Trickett hired as Florida Atlantic offensive coordinator

Samford offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Travis Trickett is leaving to become the offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic.

Samford offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Travis Trickett is the new offensive coordinator for Florida Atlantic coach Charlie Partridge, according to a source.

This season was Trickett’s fifth at Samford, where he has been offensive coordinator the last four years after a season as tight ends coach under then-Bulldogs and current Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. His up-tempo, spread offenses have consistently been among the best in the FCS, ranking third this season in passing (332.9 yards per game).

Prior to Samford, Trickett, the son of Florida State offensive line coach Rick Trickett, was a graduate assistant at Florida State from 2008–10. He held the same position at Alabama in 2007.

A respected recruiter, Trickett got his start as a student assistant at his alma mater, West Virginia, from which he graduated in 2007. He replaces former Florida Atlantic offensive coordinator Brian Wright, who after four years in the position was fired earlier this week.

The Owls had a 3–9 record this season in Partridge’s second year, but made noticeable progress. Five of their losses were by 10 points or fewer, including a 20–14 overtime defeat at then-No. 8 Florida late last month.
