Former University of Georgia mascot Uga IX has died at age 11, the school announced Monday.

The bulldog, known as Russ, was retired from his post last month. He passed away in his sleep on Monday.

Uga IX’s last game as the Bulldogs’ mascot was on Nov. 21 against Georgia Southern, which Georgia won, 23–17. Following the game, Uga X, also known as Que, officially took over as the school’s mascot.

During Uga IX’s tenure, Georgia football had a record of 44–19. Uga IX served as the school’s interim mascot for 25 games prior to his debut against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 15, 2012.
