Wheelwright burst down the right sideline on the first play of the second quarter and hauled in a pass from Joel Stave with his right hand, leaping over a defender and falling out of bounds.

Wheelwright, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, just returned from a leg injury and had not played in a game since October.

USC and Wisconsin were tied 0–0 entering the second quarter.
