Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen transfers to Houston
Former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen will transfer to Houston, the Cougars announced Tuesday.
The Houston Chronicle first reported the news. Allen, a sophomore and former five-star recruit, will sit out the 2016 season under NCAA transfer rules and have two years of eligibility left, beginning in 2017.
Allen, who was widely considered the nation’s top quarterback recruit in 2014, threw for 2,210 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season, leading the team to a 5–0 record before ceding the job to freshman Kyler Murray (who has since transferred to Oklahoma) due to midseason struggles. Allen regained the starting job for the final two games of the regular season before asking for his release.

As a true freshman, Allen threw for 1,322 yards, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He went 9–5 in 14 starts with the Aggies.
Houston went 13–1 in Tom Herman’s first season as head coach, beating Florida State in the Peach Bowl to cap off the year.
Allen will eventually replace starting quarterback Greg Ward, who will be a senior next season.
