Report: SMU guard Keith Frazier leaves program

SMU guard Keith Frazier has reportedly left the school’s basketball program.

SMU guard Keith Frazier has left the school’s basketball program, reports Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

Frazier did not play in the team’s 72–58 win over the South Florida Bulls on Saturday. He was averaging 11.9 points, 4.4. rebounds and 1.9 assists this season.

Head coach Larry Brown said following the game that Frazier was dealing with “personal issues.” Brown still wants Frazier to be a part of the team, reports Goodman.

In September, SMU was hit with a 2016 postseason ban after an NCAA investigation of allegations concerning the eligibility of Frazier.

The NCAA investigated whether former SMU assistant coach and former basketball secretary Ulric Maligi helped Frazier with his coursework and whether Brown was aware of Frazier’s academic issues.

Frazier was ruled academically illegible halfway through the 2014–15 season.

Brown was suspended for nine games after the investigation.

SMU is 13–0 to start the season. The team is set to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Thursday.
