FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Chris Washburn made the go-ahead basket for TCU with 1:12 left, and was also the last player to have his hands on the ball.

The 6-foot-8 forward blocked a final shot by Texas, then grabbed the ball and flung it to the other end of the court as time ran out in the Horned Frogs' first win against their instate rival in 21 years, 58-57 on Saturday night.

''It was a good win for us, and Chris was his normal self which was good to see,'' Horned Frogs coach Trent Johnson said.

Washburn's feet were straddling the 3-point line when he made the final basket of the game. The Horned Frogs (9-6, 1-2 Big 12) then survived four missed free throws by Brandon Parrish in the final 45 seconds.

Parrish led TCU with 15 points on five 3-pointers, but he missed all of his free throws. He missed two with 43 seconds left after being fouled on a rebound, then fouled again after Texas missed another shot with 19 seconds left - and missed two more.

''Boy, we made it tough on ourselves,'' Johnson said. ''We tried every way possible to give it back to them.''

After a timeout by Texas (9-6, 1-2) with 10 seconds left, Isaiah Taylor missed a wild shot over two defenders that hit the side of the backboard. Connor Lammert grabbed his 11th rebound, but his follow-up shot was blocked by Washburn.

''I popped out, trying to make something happen,'' said Taylor, who had 13 points on 6-of-16 shooting.

''He was good, he was very, very aggressive from the opening tip,'' Texas coach Shaka Smart said of Washburn, whose father was the No. 3 overall pick in the 1986 draft.

Texas had won 15 of the previous 16 games in the series, including all seven as Big 12 opponents since 2013. TCU's last win in the series had been 102-98 at home on Jan. 10, 1995 - 21 years ago Sunday - when they were in the Southwest Conference together.

That victory also came five days after a 95-87 loss to No. 17 West Virginia in TCU's first Big 12 game in their completely redone campus arena that opened last month.

''I'm happy for our guys, because obviously we've been coming close versus good teams in this league,'' Johnson said. ''We stayed the course, and it's just nice to win a game versus somebody that is a pretty good team.''

The Longhorns opened the second half with a 10-2 run, and were up 42-36 - the largest lead for either team after halftime - when Taylor had a steal and fed Felix for a layup.

Felix had two baskets in that spurt and led Texas with 16 points.

TCU was up 26-16 midway through the first half after scoring 12 consecutive points in a span of 2 1/2 minutes when Parrish had two 3-pointers.

The second 3 for Parrish was on a fastbreak after Karviar Shepherd blocked a shot by Taylor that was rebounded by Washburn. Parrish hit from the right wing in front of the Texas bench, and Smart quickly called timeout instead of waiting for the upcoming media stoppage.

TIP-INS

Texas: Senior guard Demarcus Holland missed the game after the death of his grandmother. Funeral services were Saturday. ... Taylor became the 36th Texas player with at least 1,000 career points. He was right at 1,000 after scoring nine points in the first half.

TCU: The Horned Frogs led 1-0 before the opening tip. Chauncey Collins made a free throw after Texas was assessed a pregame technical foul because of a scorebook infraction.

EXCHANGE OF THREES

During a stretch of just over a minute in the second half, both teams made a pair of 3-pointers. Parrish hit from the left corner for TCU with 12:52 left, and Kendal Yancy hit from long range on the ensuing Texas possession. Parrish then made a 3 from the right wing, and Eric Davis Jr. responded with another 3 for the Longhorns with 11:45 left. The Longhorns made only one of 19 3-pointers the rest of game.
