Former Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley has been hired by Alabama, reports AL.com. 

Locksley, 46, also served as quarterbacks coach during his four-year stint with the Terrapins, with whom he was hired in 2012. Locksley finished the 2015 season as the interim head coach after Randy Edsall was fired. He was not retained when D.J. Durkin was hired as the program’s new head coach.

Locksley went 1–5 with Maryland as the interim coach.

He was previously the head coach at New Mexico from 2009–2011, and has coached at the FBS level since 1996.

According to AL.com, Locksley is considered one of the top recruiters in the country.

Alabama won the 2015 national title after defeating Clemson 45–40 on Jan. 11.
