Michigan senior guard Caris LeVert will miss the rest of the season with an injury to his lower left leg, the school announced Monday.

LeVert suffered the injury during a game on Dec. 30 against Illinois. He sat out 11 games and tried to play against Purdue on Feb. 14. However, he did not finish that game and has not returned since.

“After some prayer and talking it over with my family, Coach Beilein and the medical staff, we all feel it is best for me to concentrate on getting fully healthy,” LeVert said. “There is still some discomfort that does not allow me to help this team the way I want.”

The senior was a co-captain for the Wolverines this season and averaged 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

Which mid-majors could crash the NCAA tournament with at-large bids?

“This has been a tough two months for Caris,” head coach John Beilein said in a statement. “He has worked so hard to get back to this point, and Caris’s long-term health is what is most important.

“Caris has been a pleasure to coach; he is a wonderful young man with a brilliant future. I am confident he will have a very successful professional career because his talent, attitude, quickness and versatility make every team better.”

Michigan (20–10) is currently eighth in the Big Ten.
