Report: Average payout in EA/NCAA lawsuit around $1,200

The average payout for the over 29,000 athletes that made claims against EA Sports for using their names and likenesses in video games will be around $1,200.

The average payout for the more than 29,000 athletes who made claims against EA Sports for using their names and likenesses in video games will be around $1,200, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN. 

In July, a federal judge ruled in favor of former UCLA basketball player Ed O’Bannon and a number of others in an anti-trust lawsuit against the NCAA, which had prevented athletes from receiving revenue for the sale of their likenesses. 

The total settlement came out to $60 million, with $18.8 million reportedly going to the plaintiffs’ lawyers. 

The amount that a player can receive is based on a point system depending on a number of factors, like if a player appeared on a roster in a game or had a player avatar matching their likeness.

In November, it was reported that players could begin to receive their payouts within 60 days. 

The maximum amount a player can receive is $7,200.
