Former Purdue player Mike Alstott’s son Griffin commits to Boilermakers

Former Purdue and NFL star Mike Alstott’s son Griffin has verbally committed to Purdue’s 2017 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com.

Griffin Alstott, a 6'2", 195-pound quarterback, was recruited by Purdue, Akron, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina and Troy, according to Scout.com.

“It’s a dream come true for our family,” Mike Alstott said. “It’s unbelievable.

“First of all, having your son get a scholarship and go to your alma mater on a scholarship, and at the same time, because he earned it with his preparation and his hard work and preparation and play and academics...that’s great. And it’s even more special for a quarterback, because they really only take 130, 140, 150 quarterbacks in the United States (on scholarship) every year, so it’s really special for him to be one in that elite category.”

Mike Alstott, who is Griffin’s coach at Northside Christian in St. Petersburg, Fla, was a running back at Purdue from 1992 to ’95. He spent all of his 11-year professional career with the Buccaneers after being selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 1996 NFL draft.
