Mississippi State five-star commit Jeffery Simmons has been charged with simple assault and disturbing the peace for allegedly striking a woman on March 24, reportsThe Clarion-Ledger.
A video released by WCBI in Mississippi on Thursday showed someone who appeared to be Simmons and one other person hitting a woman while she was on the ground. Jeffery soon apologized for the video, saying the incident occurred after the woman made a comment about a deceased family member.
“I take full responsibility for my actions that occurred on Thursday evening,” Simmons wrote in a Facebook post. “My apology goes out to the Taylor family and especially to Sophia Taylor. What was I thinking? Honestly, I wasn’t thinking, all I could think was this is my family and I am supposed to defend my family.”
