RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Don Horton, former North Carolina State and Boston College assistant football coach, has died. He was 58.

The funeral home handling Horton's arrangements in Raleigh said he died Saturday. He fought a public battle with Parkinson's disease.

Horton spent 10 years on Boston College's staff before coming with coach Tom O'Brien when he was hired by N.C. State after the 2006 season. Horton coached the Wolfpack's tight ends until May 2012, when he moved into an administrative position.

Horton played on the offensive line at Wittenberg, got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Ohio State and also was on the staffs at Southern Illinois, New Mexico State, Virginia and his alma mater.

After the Parkinson's diagnosis, his wife created a company that manufactures shirts with hidden magnetic buttons for people with disabilities.

His funeral will be held June 4 in his hometown of Cincinnati.
