The 2016 season will be Verne Lundquist’s final year calling SEC football games for CBS, the network announced Tuesday.
Lundquist, 75, will still broadcast college basketball and golf for CBS, but Brad Nessler will take over as the network’s lead college football play-by-play voice in 2017.
Lundquist has been the play-by-play man for CBS’s SEC coverage since 2000 and has been paired with partner Gary Danielson since 2006. Danielson will remain as the color commentator.
Nessler, 59, has been at ESPN since 1992 and also spent three seasons calling Thursday Night Football for NFL Network. He worked for two years at CBS before joining ESPN.
