Catholic University of America coach Dave Dunn is the new tight ends coach for Marshall coach Doc Holliday, according to a source. The 50-year-old Dunn had a 42–59 record in his 10 seasons as coach at CUA.

Along with the hiring, Todd Goebbel, who coached the Thundering Herd’s tight ends this past season, is moving to wide receivers coach, per the source. Goebbel succeeds former wide receivers coach Mike Furrey, who left last month to be coach at Limestone College.

This past season was the first of Goebbel’s second stint at Marshall. He was the program’s wide receivers coach from 2005–09.

The 50-year-old Dunn had a 42–59 record in his 10 seasons as coach at Catholic, an NCAA Division III school in Washington D.C. In 2008, he led the program to its second-ever league title and first postseason win in 73 years.

Prior to that, Dunn was coach at Becker College in 2005, the NCAA Division III school’s inaugural campaign. He coached Florida Atlantic’s running backs and special teams the first three games of 2004 before leaving to start Becker’s program.

Dunn also had the same responsibilities for Florida Atlantic in 2003. That was after he was the coach at Pope John Paul II High in Boca Raton, Fla., for two seasons.

He was also coach at Christopher Columbus High in Miami from 1999 through 2000, winning district titles both seasons. He was the defensive line coach at Harvard from 1997–98, coach at Masuk High in Monroe, Conn., from 1993–96 and outside linebackers coach at Indiana State in ’92.

Dunn was defensive line coach at his alma mater, San Diego, in 1990. The Detroit native was a nose guard for the Toreros from 1986 through ’89, setting then school records for sacks in a game (four), season (12) and career (19).

Marshall had a 10–3 record this past season and won the St. Petersburg Bowl. It was the Thundering Herd’s third straight double-digit win campaign and bowl victory under the underrated Holliday.

He returns 12 starters this season, including impressive sophomore quarterback Chase Litton, who threw for 2,605 yards with 23 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 2015.
