Pittsburgh Panthers running back James Conner helped raise $400,000 for cancer research, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Conner was honored with an award for his cancer battle at a dinner on Friday night hosted by his oncologist, Dr. Stanley Marks. Conner’s presence at the event helped with the fundraising effort.

Conner began receiving chemotherapy late last year after he was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma. The cancer was discovered last Thanksgiving after doctors found tumors in Conner’s neck and chest.

The running back announced in late May that he is cancer-free. He plans to return to the Panthers for one more season.
