Larry Brown resigns as head coach at SMU

Larry Brown has resigned as head coach at SMU, but has not said why he made the decision.

Larry Brown has resigned as head coach at SMU, he told ESPN on Friday.

ESPN reports Brown wanted a long term deal and resigned when SMU didn’t meet his terms. SMU athletic director Rick Hart said that the school offered him a deal through 2020. Brown had one year left on his contract

He did not provide a reason for his resignation, and said he wanted to speak with his team before he would comment on the matter.

“I’ve got nothing else I can say right now,” Brown said.

Brown, 75, served a nine-game suspension during the 2015–16 season and his team instated a self-imposed a ban from the 2016 postseason. The NCAA conducted an investigation into academic misconduct by former player Keith Frazier and determined there was a “lack of coach control.”

Associate head coach Tim Jankovich will assume head coaching duties.
