In a statement on Sunday, LSU head football coach Les Miles offered prayers and support for Baton Rouge in the wake of a shooting that left two police officers and a sheriffs' deputy dead and three wounded.

"My heart hurts for Baton Rouge and what's happened in our community over the past couple of weeks," Miles said. "My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those officers who lost their lives or were injured today in what was a senseless act.

"I continue to pray for peace, compassion and civility as our city mourns during this extremely sad time for Baton Rouge."

The shooting took place early on Sunday morning just 12 days after the killing of Alton Sterling by area law enforcement.
