Alphonse Taylor recorded 0.00 BAC level at DUI stop

Alphonse Taylor recorded a 0.00 blood-alcohol content reading before being charged with a DUI.

Alabama offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor tested negative for alcohol, but performed poorly on field sobriety tests, according to court documents observed by The Montgomery Advertiser.

According to his lawyer, a head injury may have contributed to his state that caused him to fail the tests. He recorded a 0.00 blood-alcohol content (BAC) reading.

“Anytime you have a .00 blood-alcohol (level) and there’s not a long time period between the arrest and the time of the test, it raises an eyebrow,” Taylor’s attorney said. “What compounds this situation is we have a traffic accident in which (Taylor) hit his head on the steering wheel. … As we look forward, it’s going to be difficult for the city to establish that there’s enough evidence here (to prosecute for DUI).”

He has been suspended from the team indefinitely. Taylor was arrested on July 17 and charged with DUI.

The senior started all 15 games at right guard for the Crimson Tide last season, helping the school claim its 16th national championship.

Taylor is the third Alabama football player to be arrested in recent months. In May, left tackle Cam Robinson and defensive back Laurence Jones were both arrested on drug possession and weapons charges.
