Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon scored on a 97-yard kick return during the first quarter of the Sooners’ game against Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, but wouldn’t have if referees reviewed the play.
As Mixon approached the goal line, he dropped the football just inches away from paydirt. The ball fell out of bounds at the one-yard line, so Oklahoma would have maintained possession either way.
Referees didn’t catch the gaffe, but fans did.
Mixon had carried twice for 20 yards prior to the return. It made the score 14–7.
