FCS-over-FBS wins rise to 10
(STATS) - And the FBS level is going to stop scheduling FCS teams when?
Hopefully never, the FCS is having too much fun.
With two more wins on Saturday - No. 13 Western Illinois over Northern Illinois and Central Arkansas over Arkansas State by identical 28-23 scores - FCS teams have 10 over FBS programs this season.
It surpassed last year's total of nine wins. The single-season high was 16 in 2013.
"We came in, there's always that FBS-FCS middle line separating us," Western Illinois quarterback Sean McGuire said. "But we've seen it's a thin line and obviously a lot of teams have shown that this year. We showed it today."
Western Illinois (3-0) built a 28-7 lead over Northern Illinois after three quarters while giving the Missouri Valley Football Conference its fourth win over the FBS this season. McGuire threw for 315 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score.
Central Arkansas (3-1) rallied to its win with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Hayden Hildebrand's 18-yard pass to Brandon Cox with 6:26 remaining provided the winning margin.
