Illinois Shocks No. 6 Wisconsin With Last-Second Field Goal
Illinois upset No. 6 Wisconsin 24–23 with a last-second field goal to topple the unbeaten Big Ten powerhouse at Memorial Stadium in Champaign on Saturday.
James McCourt kicked a 39-yard field goal to deliver the stunning win for Illinois.
The Fighting Illini threatened Wisconsin's lead with 2:32 remaining in the fourth quarter after picking off Jack Coan on third-and-5th on the Badgers' 45-yard line. The interception, which marked Wisconsin's third turnover of the day, came after Illinois scored a touchdown to narrow the Badgers' lead to 23–21.
Saturday's win marks Illinois's first victory over a top-10 ranked Big Ten team since beating Ohio State in 2007.
Wisconsin closed as a 30.5-point favorite at Illinois and the Illini were +2500 on the moneyline at William Hill, making this the biggest upset of the college football season.
The Badgers' loss comes a week before they are set to travel to No. 4 Ohio State in Columbus.
