Indiana got its third straight win in conference play last week, earning a 38–31 win over Nebraska on the road. In a game where both teams combined for just under 1,000 offensive yards, Peyton Ramsey's 351 passing yards and two touchdowns were key. Having clinched bowl eligibility already on the season, Indiana now looks to position itself more favorably for a postseason appearance and increase its win total in this conference clash.
Northwestern will need to run the table to become bowl eligible, after dropping its last game, 20–0, to Iowa. The loss was the Wildcats' fifth consecutive defeat in conference play with the offense only managing 202 yards against the Hawkeyes. Northwestern has only scored more than 15 points once this season, which was in its lone win against UNLV. To get into the win column in Big Ten play, the Wildcats' offense will need to step up.
