Former NC State Football Player Charged After Threats to Dave Doeren
Former NC State football player Joseph Boletepeli was arrested and charged with communicating threats to Wolfpack football coach Dave Doeren this week, Wake County (N.C.) arrest records confirm.
According to WRAL, the police warrant indicates that Boletepeli tweeted, “Imma get him I promise. Dave Doeren and the rest.” The 22-year-old Boletepeli was charged with misdemeanor stalking and resisting a public officer in addition to the charge for communicating threats.
The resisting a public officer charge came after the former defensive lineman tried to pull away from police to avoid being handcuffed, according to the report.
The threatening tweet posted by Boletepeli was the latest in a string of actions that culminated in his arrest. Investigators said that the suspect went to the NC State football complex several times and sent threatening text messages to Doeren and several members of his staff.
Boletepeli last played for NC State in 2019 before transferring to Maryland. He played in four games for the Terps during the COVID-19-impacted season and did not play in ’21. He is not listed on the roster this year for Maryland.
