Dillon Gabriel to Return to Oklahoma for 2023 Season

Dillon Gabriel’s days of wearing a crimson and cream uniform are not done yet.

Gabriel announced Thursday that he is returning for a fifth year of college football at Oklahoma in the 2023 college football season.

“Forever home. Let’s do it again in 2023,” Gabriel tweeted.

Prior to the 2022 season, Gabriel transferred to Oklahoma from UCF to play for Brent Venables in his first year as the Sooners football coach. The left-handed quarterback threw for 3,168 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions on the way to Oklahoma finishing 6–7 this season.

Gabriel gives the Sooners a valuable option at quarterback heading into a new year under offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. With the departure of Nick Evers to Wisconsin, Oklahoma’s quarterback room also consists of Davis Beville and incoming quarterback Jackson Arnold.

To this point, Beville has only thrown for 102 yards on 15-of-30 passes and one interception through five games. Getting Gabriel back for 2023 should be a huge asset for the Sooners.

In addition to returning to Norman for next season, Gabriel also has one more year of college eligibility following the 2023 campaign, meaning he that he could be in a Sooners’ uniform in ’24.
