Florida State Football Signs Coach Mike Norvell to Extension
Florida State made significant progress in its third season under coach Mike Norvell, and the Seminoles are rewarding him accordingly.
Norvell has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Tallahassee through the 2029 season and take his average annual salary over $8 million, the school announced Wednesday.
In 2022, Florida State—a program without a winning season since 2017—won 10 games, including its final six and the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma. The Seminoles finished the season ranked No. 11 in the country, their highest final ranking since finishing No. 8 in 2016 under coach Jimbo Fisher.
It was a complete turnaround for Florida State after Norvell went 3-6 and 5-7, respectively, after hiring Norvell away from Memphis, a team he guided to the Cotton Bowl in 2019. His first two seasons with the Seminoles included lowlights such as a loss to Jacksonville State on Sept. 11, 2021.
Florida State returns most of its key contributors for 2023 and will open its season on Sept. 3 against LSU in Orlando.
