Adrian Autry Named Syracuse Men’s Basketball Coach

With Hall of Fame Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim calling it a career after 47 years, the Orange have moved quickly to name their next head coach.

Adrian Autry will replace Boeheim, the school announced Wednesday afternoon, mere hours after Syracuse lost 77-74 to Wake Forest in the second round of the ACC tournament.

Autry played under Boeheim from 1991-94, making the All-Big East team in ’93 and ’94. His 631 career assists rank fifth in school history.

After playing professionally overseas, Autry entered the coaching profession. He spent time in the high school ranks and with Virginia Tech before the Orange hired him ahead of the 2011-12 season. Autry was elevated to associate head coach in March 2017, a role he held until Wednesday.

The 78-year-old Boeheim leaves Syracuse with a national championship and 1,014 career victories, 656 more than any other head coach in the Orange’s 122-year men’s basketball history.
