Georgetown Parts Ways With Patrick Ewing, per Report

The Hoyas alum could not right the ship in D.C. in six years at the helm.

Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown men’s basketball team was blown out by Villanova 80–48 on Wednesday in the first round of the Big East Tournament to end the Hoyas’ season. In the end, it also marked the end of Ewing’s tenure as Georgetown’s basketball coach.

Georgetown has decided to part ways with Ewing after six seasons, per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

Ewing, who is one of the best players in the history of the Georgetown basketball program, could not replicate the same success as the school’s coach. Georgetown went just 7–25 this season, and went 6–25 a year ago. Last season, the Hoyas were 0–19 in Big East play, and lost 10 more conference games in a row this season before snapping their 29-game league losing streak against DePaul this past January. 

Georgetown finished this season with a 2–18 record in Big East play, which is a far cry from the standard of the storied basketball program.

The Hoyas went just 75–109 with Ewing as the school’s coach, and made just one NCAA Tournament appearance in his six seasons at the helm.
