Kansas interim basketball coach Norm Roberts expects head coach Bill Self to coach the Jayhawks in the NCAA tournament when it tips off next week, he told reporters following Saturday’s Big 12 championship loss to Texas.

“He’s doing well. We plan on him coaching next week,” Roberts said, per the Kansas City Star. When asked further about whether or not Self would join the team for the selection show on Sunday, Roberts was hopeful.

“I would hope so, but I haven’t talked to him yet,” Roberts said.

Self missed the Big 12 quarterfinal, semifinal and Saturday’s title game after being hospitalized with an illness. Self was said to be doing well in the care of the University of Kansas Health System.

After Kansas won their 17th regular season Big 12 title last week, the hope was that the Jayhawks would be able to replicate their regular season success in the conference tournament.

However, on Saturday, Kansas proved to be overmatched by Texas, who won convincingly, 76–56, by shooting 50% from the floor to take home the Big 12 tournament title.
