Alabama’s Tony Mitchell Drove 141 MPH Before Being Stopped, Police Say
Alabama defensive back Tony Mitchell was clocked driving 141 miles per hour while attempting to evade police before his reported marijuana-related arrest Wednesday, records obtained by AL.com on Monday evening show.
Sheriff’s deputies apprehended Mitchell and his passenger, Christophere Lewis, in Holmes County, Fla. They charged Mitchell with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and/or distribute; Lewis was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and/or distribute as well as carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.
Per AL.com, police recovered “more than $7,000 in cash and 226 grams of marijuana ... in the vehicle along with (a) loaded gun.”
Mitchell was suspended indefinitely by the Crimson Tide in the aftermath of his arrest, with coach Nick Saban remarking Monday, “There's no such thing as the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Mitchell, a freshman Alabama native, was a four-star recruit rated as one of the top defensive back prospects in the class of 2023.
