Houston Star Marcus Sasser Declares for 2023 NBA Draft
Houston star guard Marcus Sasser announced on Instagram Thursday that he is declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft.
Sasser, who was tabbed as the AAC’s Player of the Year this past season and earned a nod to the AP All-America first-team, was a pivotal member of Kelvin Sampson’s squad that finished the year with an impressive 33–4 record. The talented shooting guard led the Cougars in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game while impressively shooting 38.4% from beyond the arc.
“The past four years at the University of Houston have been filled with lots of memorable moments, some good and some not so good, but I am thankful for them all,” Sasser wrote on Instagram. “The coaching staff, my brothers (my teammates), the fans and the city of Houston as a whole have all played an intricate role in my growth and development. It is now time for me to take the next step and enter into the NBA Draft. Wherever God’s plan takes me next, the experiences I’ve had while playing for UH will always hold a special place in my heart. Love Houston.”
The Cougars earned the No. 1 seed in Midwest Region of the men’s NCAA Tournament, but their season came to end after being upset 89–75 by No. 5 Miami in the Sweet 16.
Sasser, a senior who played four years at Houston, ranks No. 27 in the 2023 NBA Draft big board from Sports Illustrated.
