South Carolina, Notre Dame to Play Historic Game in Paris Next Season

The Gamecocks and Fighting Irish will make history when the two teams play in France next November.

Two national championship programs will make history on the hardwood next November in Paris.

South Carolina and Notre Dame women’s basketball will face off to open the 2023–24 season in Paris on Monday, Nov. 6. The game will mark the first time an NCAA regular-season basketball game has taken place in France.

“We did not hesitate to accept the invitation,” Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley said in a school release on Wednesday. “Playing Notre Dame in Paris is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our student-athletes, and I’m thankful for the support of our administration and our donors.”

Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey expressed similar excitement for the game next fall.

“It’s always been my mission to break barriers and provide opportunities for my players to have life-changing experiences,” Ivey said. “Women’s basketball is on the rise, and having this exposure will help to grow the game on an international level.”

The matchup between the two teams was created by Complete Sports Management, a company founded by Lea Miller-Tooley that made it its mission to take college teams all over the world for historic experiences.

“We are honored to partner with two of the most respected and dominant teams in women’s college basketball while showcasing one of the most iconic cities in the world,” Miller-Tooley said. “This historic game will set a new standard.”

South Carolina and Notre Dame are expected to be two national title contenders next season when the schools face off, and the opening game between two heavyweights will be much anticipated across women’s college basketball.
