Oklahoma’s quest for a third consecutive national championship rolled on with Sunday’s 16-3 win over Cal, which advanced the Sooners into the super regionals of the NCAA tournament. But even with a long road still to climb before, the team is already one win shy of making history.

Sunday’s victory was the 46th in a row for Oklahoma, putting the team just one away from the NCAA’s all-time record of 47 set by Arizona from 1996 to ’97. The Sooners will take on the winner of Sunday’s game between Clemson and Auburn in the next round.

Oklahoma’s last loss was a 4–3 defeat at Baylor on Feb. 19 at the Getterman Classic in the team’s ninth game of the season. The Sooners went a perfect 18–0 in conference play, and have not lost a game at home all year.

Historic winning streaks are nothing new for the program, particularly under head coach Patty Gasso. Oklahoma also lays claim to the NCAA’s third-, fourth- and fifth-longest winning streaks, all set in the past four years. Gasso, arrived at Oklahoma in 1995, has led the program to six national championships, including five since 2013.
