USC Basketball Reveals Bronny James’s Jersey Number for 2023-24
Bronny James, the eldest son of Lakers star LeBron James, will begin his USC basketball tenure wearing the No. 6, just like his father.
For the reveal, the Trojans basketball account tweeted a picture of Bronny donning the cardinal-based jersey trimmed in gold along with his name “James Jr.” and the No. 6.
When LeBron entered the NBA in 2003, he wore the No. 23 for the Cavaliers. However, when James joined the Heat in free agency ahead of the 2010–11 season, he transitioned to No. 6.
In his return to Cleveland, James wore No. 23 and retained the number in his first three seasons in Los Angeles before going back to No. 6 in his last two years.
In May, LeBron stated that he wears the No. 6 for “multiple reasons,” and in part because of the number’s associations with his sons birthdays.
“Why I wear number six, there’s multiple reasons,” James said, “One, because 23 is one of my favorite numbers as well so two times three is six. … Also, my first son [Bronny] was born on October 6. … My youngest son [Bryce] is June 14th, the sixth month of the year. Six has always been with me ever since I was a kid for some reason especially when it relates with my family.”
Bronny committed to USC in May after attending high school at Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, Calif., where he helped the Trailblazers win 47 games in two seasons. The former top-25 recruit by ESPN and 247Sports committed to USC over offers from Ohio State, Memphis and Oregon, among others.
Bronny will make his college debut on Nov. 6 when USC faces off against Kansas State in Las Vegas.
