Jarin Stevenson Commits to Alabama, Reclassifies to 2023

The blue-chip recruit will seek to minimize the loss of presumptive NBA lottery pick Brandon Miller.

Alabama is losing forward Brandon Miller in Thursday’s NBA draft, but the Crimson Tide are poised to add a big name to replace him.

Five-star power forward Jarin Stevenson has committed to Alabama, he announced in a tweet Wednesday evening. Additionally, Stevenson wrote that he planned to reclassify from the class of 2024 to ’23.

Stevenson, who played his high school ball at Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, N.C., will arrive in Tuscaloosa in early July, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Stevenson spurned interest from North Carolina to sign with the Crimson Tide, and he also visited Georgetown, Missouri and Virginia during the recruiting process.

Alabama is picking up the pieces after one of the most tumultuous seasons for any college basketball program in recent memory.

On Jan. 15, Crimson Tide forward Darius Miles was charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Jamea Harris in Tuscaloosa. Testimony from prosecutors and media reports linked three other players—Miller, guard Kai Spears, and guard Jaden Bradley—to the scene of the killing in some form or fashion.

On the court, Alabama went 31-6 and advanced to the Sweet 16 before losing, 71-64, to San Diego State.
