Austin Herro Announces Commitment to South Carolina
Austin Herro, the younger brother of Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro, announced his commitment to South Carolina on Sunday with a post on Instagram of him wearing a No. 1 Gamecocks jersey.
“Write your own story,” he said on Instagram.
Herro recently graduated and will head to Columbia shortly to start his collegiate career. He played four years for Whitnall High School in suburban Milwaukee and averaged 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists as a 6’3” senior. The combo guard also had an offer from Cal Poly but is electing to try his luck in the SEC. South Carolina finished 11–21 this past season under first-year coach Lamont Paris.
Herro’s older brother attended Kentucky, where he was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year in 2019 before he entered the NBA draft that same year. Miami selected him with the No. 13 pick, and he has since cemented himself as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. He was named the Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 and averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists this past season.
