Big 12 Commissioner Made Clear That He’s Openly Rooting Against Texas This Season
The 2023 season will be Texas’s last year in the Big 12 before joining the SEC in ‘24.
The Longhorns’ final regular-season Big 12 matchup will take place on Nov. 24 when Texas Tech visits Austin. Commissioner Brett Yormark announced on Wednesday at a Texas Tech event that he will be at that game, and he made it pretty clear who he will be rooting for.
“Coach [Joey McGuire], I’m not going to put any pressure on you, but I’m going to be in Austin on Thanksgiving, and you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year,” Yormark said.
It’s been a contentious time in the Big 12 after Texas and Oklahoma announced their intent to leave the conference for the SEC. Since, Yorkmark & Co. have held their own in the realignment battle, adding BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston.
Last year, Texas Tech trounced the Longhorns in Lubbock, winning for the first time since the 2017 season. Apparently, Yormark would like to send the Longhorns out on a loss this year, too.
