In this story:

Before December 2022, Colorado athletic director Rick George was just another college sports administrator.

Sure, the Buffaloes had some positive moments under the former Texas Rangers executive—a football division title in 2016 and appearances in both NCAA basketball tournaments—but there was little to distinguish George from any other athletic director around the country.

Now, George is the man who lured coach Deion Sanders to Boulder. Colorado has laughed all the way to the bank off the sheer strength of Sanders’s personal brand, and the Buffaloes have gotten positive on-field results as well to the tune of a 4-2 start.

Seemingly content to bask in his elevated profile, George raised eyebrows Friday night by donning a custom “Coach Prime” jacket during Colorado’s home game against Stanford.

The coat featured the Buffaloes’ logo, a caricature of Sanders, and the coach’s “PRIME” logo.

Gauche as it may have seemed on television, if your hire pumped millions into the local economy, you’d probably be springing for a new jacket, too.
