South Carolina lost a heartbreakingly close game to Florida on Saturday, 41–39, and Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer wound up with an injury following the loss.

Beamer told media on Tuesday that after the loss he “kicked something he shouldn’t have kicked” and ended up breaking his foot.

“I care about these kids,” Beamer said, via On3’s Mike Uva. I was frustrated I didn’t do enough to get us over the hump.”

South Carolina began the fourth quarter with back-to-back touchdowns to take a 10-point lead over Florida. The Gators responded with back-to-back touchdowns of their own, however, to retake the lead, 41–37.

Florida then intercepted South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler on the next drive, which essentially ended the game.

It’s unclear what Beamer was frustrated enough to kick in breaking his foot, but it’s always tough for a team to lose close games like that.

South Carolina moved to 2–4 on the season after the loss.
