Louisville’s Jeff Brohm Earns Extra Year Contract Incentive With Shutout Win Over Duke
Louisville’s 23–0 domination of Duke on Saturday kept the Cardinals toward the top of the pack in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship race—while simultaneously making first-year head coach Jeff Brohm richer and more secure.
The Cardinals’ seventh win of the season automatically added another year to Brohm’s contract, extending him through the 2029 season. If Louisville (7–1) gets to 10 wins this season, it will add a second bonus year to the deal and extend him through ‘30. There are numerous other incentives that Brohm has a chance to collect as this season progresses.
Saturday’s rout of the Blue Devils lifted No. 18 Louisville to 4–1 in the ACC, good for at least a tie for second in the league after Saturday’s games are completed. North Carolina, 3–1 and ranked No. 17, plays Georgia Tech Saturday night. Fourth-ranked Florida State, the league leader, moved to 8–0 overall and 6–0 in the league, after routing Wake Forest.
The Cardinals are now 4–0 at L&N Stadium, with an average winning margin of 30 points. However, their next two home games—against Virginia Tech and Virginia—look more difficult as the season wears on. The Hokies have won three of their last four to reach 4–4 overall, 3–1 in the ACC. Virginia won its first two games of the season the previous two weeks and pushed Miami into overtime Saturday.
Louisville was picked to finish eighth in the ACC before the season. The Cardinals have never played in the ACC championship game. They were paced in this game by running back Jawhar Jordan, who racked up a career-high 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Jordan, who entered the game second in the ACC in rushing, was limited by injury to just eight yards on two carries in Louisville’s lone loss of the season, an upset at Pittsburgh.
The Blue Devils (5–3) have lost three of their last four, all to ranked opponents: Notre Dame, Florida State and Louisville.
