Deion Sanders has been a head coach in college football since 2020, and in that time, he’s been able to recruit some big names to Jackson State and now Colorado.

Speaking on his weekly The Colorado Football Coaches Show on Thursday, Sanders admitted the person in recruiting groups who he actually learns the most from: the mother of the recruit.

“Mama tells everything. On these recruiting trips, Mama tells everything,” Sanders said, sparking laughter from the live audience. “The Dad is going to be like, ‘You know my son is a killer.’ Mom will look over there, ‘You know that boy ain’t no killer.’"

"I talk to the mothers most of the time, because Mama's going to give you 100," Sanders explained. "The Mama’s going to keep it real because she wants her son protected.”

Sanders's explanation starts at around the 37-minute mark below.

So far, the method must be working well for Sanders. The 4–5 Buffaloes face No. 23 Arizona on Saturday afternoon.
