Colorado QB Completes Pass to Himself, Throws Interception on Same Regrettable Play

Colorado quarterback Gavin Kuld is one of two reserve signal-callers who saw playing time in the team’s 56-14 loss at Washington State on Friday night.

Kuld, the Buffaloes’ third-string quarterback, was hoping to provide a spark for the Colorado offense late in the third quarter after starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders left the game due to injury.

On third-and-nine from the Cougars’ 48-yard line, Kuld attempted threw a pass that was tipped by Cougars defensive lineman Nusi Malani. Kuld would’ve been wise to bat the ball down, but he juggled and caught it instead.

Then he illegally attempted a second forward pass that resulted in an interception by Cougars linebacker Taariq Al-Uqdah. Officials flagged Kuld for an illegal forward pass, but the Cougars declined the penalty in order to count the interception.

Kuld completed one of three passes Friday night for 22 yards and the unfortunate interception as the Buffaloes suffered their fifth consecutive loss. Colorado dropped to 4–7 overall and 1–7 in Pac-12 play and cannot become bowl eligible. Washington State improved to 5-6 and 2-6.

Colorado is scheduled to play its season finale at No. 22 Utah (7–3, 4–3) on Nov. 25.
