Army, Navy Unveil Incredible New Uniforms for 2023 Clash
The 2023 Army-Navy Game is coming up fast. One of college football’s great traditions is also the chance for both service academies to unveil awesome-looking alternate uniforms, something that has become customary for the rivalry every year.
On Monday, Navy—which is outfitted by Under Armour—rolled out its new “Silent Service Uniform,” paying tribute to the U.S. Submarine Force.
“The entire uniform is flooded with Eclipse Navy (UA’s darkest shade of navy blue) to mimic the covert design of a submarine hull,” the school’s website for the new uniforms reads. “The uniform was purposefully designed to embody the Force’s nickname: Silent Service. The overall design was intended to be simple and utilitarian to convey the stealth purposes of a submarine’s design.”
Meanwhile, Army rolled out its “Dogface Soldiers” uniform on Tuesday, which pay tribute to the 3rd Infantry Division. The Nike-designed threads feature a tan desert motif for the 3rd Infantry’s role in the Iraq War, with the division’s famous mascot “Rocky the bulldog,” a Walt Disney creation, appearing on the helmet.
As is often the case, the game will be a real clash of looks. The uniform battle is a popular one every year, and fans are already excited with a few weeks until game day.
Navy dropped its game to Air Force on Oct. 21, 17–6, while Army pulled off a stunning blowout upset of the Falcons on Nov. 4, 23–3. Therefore, Army can capture the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy with a win over Navy, while the Midshipmen secure a tie between the three academies.
Navy (5–5) and Army (5–6) are also each one win away from bowl eligibility. Navy travels to SMU on Saturday, while Army is done with the rest of its regular season schedule.
The Army-Navy Game, which is being played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., kicks off at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 9.
