Indiana to Hire James Madison’s Curt Cignetti as Next Head Coach, per Sources
Indiana is expected to hire James Madison’s Curt Cignetti as its next head coach, sources told Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde on Thursday.
Cignetti has served as James Madison’s head coach for the past five seasons, posting a combined 52-9 record, including three seasons with at least 11 wins. He was also previously the head coach at Division II Indiana U. (Pa.) for six years and FCS Elon University for two. He boasts a career record of 119-35 as a collegiate head coach. Cignetti has never suffered a losing season as a head coach.
The Hoosiers will hire Cignetti to replace Tom Allen, whom the team fired following seven seasons at the helm. Allen led Indiana to two bowl appearances as the team’s head coach and is coming off a 3–9 season. Allen posted a 33–49 overall record with Indiana.
Cignetti was reportedly also a candidate to replace Mike Elko as the Duke football head coach, but Indiana ultimately has landed the veteran coach instead.
