USC’s Bronny James Cleared for Full Return to Basketball Months After Cardiac Arrest Scare
Four months after entering cardiac arrest during a USC practice, Trojans guard Bronny James is ready to take the next steps in his recovery.
James has been cleared by doctors for a full return to basketball activities, his family announced through a spokesperson Thursday afternoon.
“Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball. Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after,” the statement read. “The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family and fans for their love and support.”
James collapsed on July 24 and was quickly rushed to the hospital; he was released three days later. The freshman is the son of Lakers forward LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
The Trojans have games scheduled against No. 11 Gonzaga, Long Beach State, Auburn and Alabama State before a nine-day holiday layoff.
